Both Rodney Brooks and Henrik Christensen are impressed by the SLAM inside Amazon's Astro. Note that the Astro is equiped with an Amazon AZ1 Neural Edge for its 3D-SLAM.

Saw in this SLAM lecture some nice quotes from Real-time Monocular SLAM: Why Filter?.
In the same lecture was mentioned that ORB-SLAM2 only reached 8th place in the KITTI Visual Odometry 2012 Evaluation. It was outperformed by Stereo odometry based on careful feature selection and tracking.
