Aim

Aim is to introduce students to the main concepts and techniques of category theory.

In this course we will give a general introduction to the methods and results of category theory. More concretely, we will cover the following topics:

Practical details

This course is offered in weeks 14-21 with an exam in week 22 of 2017. During weeks 14 - 21 there will be two lectures and two exercise class per week. The lectures are on Tuesdays 13:00-15:00 in SP D1.110 and Thursdays 11:00-13:00 in SP D1.116. The exercise class are on Wednesdays 15:00-17:00 in SP A1.30 (except for week 19 when it will be in SP G0.05) and Fridays 9:00-11:00 in SP A1.30. (Note that the following days are holidays: April 14, April 27, April 28, May 5, May 25 and May 26).

So the first meeting will be on 4 March 13:00 in the lecture hall D1.110 at the Science Park of the University of Amsterdam.

Exam

The exam will take place on Wednesday 31 May 9:00-12:00 in SP F1.02. A date for a resit has not yet been scheduled.

We assume that participants in the course possess the mathematical maturity as can be expected from students in mathematics or logic at the MSc level.
