I am a researcher in the System and Network Engineering group, lead by Cees de Laat, where I work on security and privacy in distributed systems. I led the security and privacy subprogram of the Dutch project COMMIT, previously the Virtual Laboratory for e-Science (VL-e), among several other things. Besides doing research, I currently spend most my time building a real-world health information exchange system aimed at security and end-user privacy controllability, in collaboration with Amsterdam GP organization HKA. This work takes place in spin-off company Whitebox Systems.
Note: Whitebox Systems has vacancies for (security savvy) programmers
Please see whiteboxsystems.nl/contact for contact information at my company.

Some information about the EPD system can be found here.
I used to work in the computer systems group at the Vrije Universiteit, where I did my Ph.D.

I co-supervised Matthijs Koot's PhD research on data anonymity. Some of his papers can be found here. Prof. Latanya Sweeney gave a talk on privacy protection after the defense, on June 27 2012.
