TCP and UDP Test Configurations
In this page the used test configurations are specified. An overview of the
measurement results, executed at the
Netherlight Lambda, will be given in the next page.
will be given in the next page. The measurement
configurations are listed below. The test results are classified and presented
in the order of these configuration items.
-
Traffic Type.
These network tests consist of TCP and UDP bulk
transfer tests using the
Iperf or
Netperf tools
and the results that were obtained from the
UDPmon tool, such as UDP
bandwidth and the # packets lost.
-
Network equipment configuration /
hardware.
The tests are also differentiated to the provider of the Lambda between
Amsterdam and Chicago and to the version of the hardware used. This leads to
the following classification:
-
Routes.
The measurements are also presented according to the followed route and
possible settings connected with that. Basically there are two routes
involved:
-
SARA, Amsterdam -
EVL, Chicago.
-
SARA -
EVL -
SARA. To be able to create this route
the hosts at SARA are spread over two
VLAN's.
For some tests the hosts at SARA have been
replaced by hosts at NIKHEF, Amsterdam.
-
Host hardware /OS version.
In general the following host setups have been used during these tests:
-
Linux 2.2.15 with 128 Mbyte memory.
-
Linux 2.2.15 with 512 Mbyte memory.
-
Linux 2.4.16web100 with 512 Mbyte memory.
In some occasions also hosts running FreeBSD have been used.
