You have reached the personal website of theoretical physicist Jan Pieter van der Schaar.
My research is in the area of quantum gravity, string theory and cosmology. Currently I am an associate professor in Institute of Physics and a member of the string theory and cosmology group at the University of Amsterdam. I received my master’s and PhD at the University of Groningen, after which I held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Michigan, CERN’s Theory Division and the Institute for Strings, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (ISCAP) at Columbia University, before arriving at the University of Amsterdam in January 2006.
For more information about cosmology in Amsterdam, please visit our group site. I am also one of the principal investigators of the national ‘Observing the Big Bang’ program, which was awarded in 2015. For more information on this national cosmology program, click here.
Since 2013 I am also the coordinator of the Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics. For more information on the Delta ITP consortium, click here.
