DYNSTOCH+ 2007 workshop Amsterdam - Travelling

By plane Amsterdam is through its airport Schiphol connected to a vast number of location around the world. Some low cost companies land at Schiphol, like EasyJet, Maersk Air. Rynair doesn't fly to Amsterdam, but to another airport in The Netherlands, Eindhoven, which is quite far away from Amsterdam. Most interesting for most participants who want to come by plane could be the Dutch company Transavia.com, that operates many flights from and to Amsterdam. There are about 4-6 trains per hour from Schiphol to the railway station Amsterdam Centraal. Tickets can be purchased at vending machines (that accept credit cards) in the main hall of the airport or at the ticket windows.
By trainAmsterdam has frequent direct railway connections to and from for instance Brussels, Paris, Cologne, Frankfurt, Basel. A good webpage is still the one of Deutsche Bahn.
In AmsterdamFor getting to the Korteweg-de Vries Institute, we refer to the official Directions for visitors, that also contains information when you come by car.
The centre of Amsterdam knows a system of paid parking, which is quite expensive! Close to the Korteweg-de Vries Institute the fare is € 3,60 per hour, or € 30,60 for 24 hours. However, there are also four P+R (park and ride) facilities not far away from the centre. There you pay € 5,50 per day only (with a maximum of 96 hours!) which includes a return ticket by public transport. Read more information on parking in general or on the P+R facilities.
For the public transportation system you may want to use the strip ticket which is valid for more journeys and that has to be prepurchased. Single tickets are sold on busses and trams. Read everything you want to know about tickets and fares.
TourismThere a many museums worth a visit. You can find all kind of information on the website with Amsterdam Tourist Information.
