Exercise 4.34 in the 2nd edition should be Exercise 4.36 in the 3rd edition. There are however versions of the 3rd edition where this exercise has number 4.34! To eliminate possible confusion, the exercise that you are supposed to make is the one with uniform $X$ and where you are asked to compute $E(Y)$.
