====================================== Image Processing and Computer Vision ====================================== Why computer scientists should know about Image Processing and Computer Vision: It is a difficult task for a computer: .. image:: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/tasks.png :align: center From the xkcd website: "In the 60s, Marvin Minsky assigned a couple of undergrads to spend the summer programming a computer to use a camera to identify objects in a scene. He figured they'd have the problem solved by the end of the summer. Half a century later, we're still working on it." But we are now getting close to the solution (using deep learning). Even for humans vision is a difficult task: A `quote from Quora `_: "It is often said that 2/3 (60%+) of the brain is "involved" in vision. However possibly less than 20% of the brain is dedicated to "visual-only" functioning. The other 40% is doing vision+touch, or vision+motor, or vision+attention, or vision+spatial navigation, or vision+meaning, etc. There is generally a smooth gradation from areas fully-specialized to one thing to areas involved in many things." .. image:: /images/brain.png :width: 12cm :align: center .. aklsdklka .. toctree:: :maxdepth: 3 Course Syllabus 2017-2018 <20172018/syllabus> Schedule 2017-2018 <20172018/schedule> 20172018/LabExercises/index Lecture Notes
