(In parallel, Carla is looking to hire a PhD student based in Delft; see that call.)
The starting dates for the positions are flexible, though for the PhD position a starting date before October 2027 is desired. The postdoc position will be advertised at a later date.
A typical objective in combinatorics is to optimise a parameter (such as graph density or maximum degree) to guarantee some desired structure (such as a triangle subgraph or a large independent set). In this project, with inspiration from physical phenomena, you will carry out a systematic qualitative study of such objectives as phase transitions.
The application link for the first PhD position will be added above when made available. You will be asked to upload the following documents:
a detailed CV including the months (not just years) when referring to your education and work experience;
letter of motivation (optional);
detailed, itemised transcripts; and
the names and email addresses of two references who can provide letters of recommendation.
It is a strict requirement to have a master's degree by the start of the PhD and to be fluent in English. It is also important to have some prior experience with mathematical research, for example through a summer internship or university project. We look for candidates with strong communication and collaboration skills, mathematical maturity and enthusiasm for our research topics. We invite all candidates with a strong match on the above criteria to apply.
Fluency in Dutch is not required. The positions will have similar teaching requirement (15%) and salary as other PhD positions at Dutch universities.
If you are considering to apply to one of the PhD positions mentioned above, do not worry about submitting (essentially) identical dossiers to both; conversely, do not worry if you only want to apply to exactly one of them.
