AGACSE 2010 will be held in the Doelenzaal, inside the central University of Amsterdam Library. Full address:

Doelenzaal
Singel 425
1012 WP Amsterdam
The Netherlands

The Doelenzaal is located in the Universiteitsbibliotheek. Here it is on a detailed map.
It can be reached from Amsterdam Central Station with trams 1, 2 and 5. Get off at the 4th stop (Koningsplein) and walk back to Singel 425.
From other locations, tram 16, 24, 25 may be convenient. Get off at Muntplein and walk along Singel (opposite the flower market).
But first check where your hotel is, you may be able to walk, Amsterdam is not a big city, and educational to walk around in.
At Singel 425, use the 20th century library entrance; once inside follow directions to the historic Doelenzaal (to your left).

Getting There and Getting Around

The easiest and cheapest way to get to town from the airport is by train to Amsterdam CS (Central Station), then by tram, bus, metro or foot to your hotel. The trains go every 10 minutes, the ride takes about 15 minutes. The train ticket costs about 4 euros. Tickets can be bought at vending machines while you are waiting for your luggage, or at the train station (in the same building) at the Airport Schiphol Plaza (credit card PIN vending machines or cash from a manned window).

It is expensive to take a taxi from the airport (€45-€60). Settle a price with the driver in advance. Taxis are also available at Central Station, a city ride is probably around €15 depending on where your hotel is; agree on a price in advance. Of course your hotel may have a recommendation for a shuttle service to and from the Airport.

If you should travel by car, enquire with your hotel about parking, which tends to be expensive (in the center, €5 per hour). You may consider leaving your car in the Transferium [click here] (more like €6 per day, rates vary) and do all your local travel by public transportation.

Wherever you travel in Amsterdam, mind your belongings - there tend to be pickpockets around!

Public transportation tickets are electronic and may be purchased on the tram, bus or metro for a few euros. Find out how to reach your hotel on this public transportation map [pdf].

You or your accompanying person may be interested in (multiple) day passes [click here], for convenience or savings, or in this CitySightSeeingAmsterdam package. Multiple day passes are not sold on board. They can be purchased at separate vending points [list here] (for instance next to the Tourist Information across from Central Station, which tends to be busy; we would recommend the AKO bookstore at Central Station instead, or the NH City Center Hotel at Spuistraat 290 near the conference site.)

Note that these day passes are only for Amsterdam city travel, the optional trip on early Thursday morning to the flower auction in Aalsmeer will require you to buy a separate ticket (on the bus we will take there).
