Personal information

Eduardus M. (Eduard) de Jager was born in Uitgeest,
the Netherlands, on 3 February 1927. In 1970, he married
Catharina M.T. Vesseur. They have two children,
Eduard J.J. de Jager (1971) and Folkert G.J. de Jager (1973).

Since 1992, Eduard de Jager was Emeritus Professor at the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics of the University of Amsterdam, and in that year he became Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion (Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw).

Eduard de Jager passed away on 17 July 2015 in Baambrugge, near Amsterdam.
See three overlijdensadvertenties (death notices) in the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad of 21 July 2015: by the familyby the University of Amsterdam,  and by the University of Twente.
An In Memoriam (in Dutch) by Henk Pijls and Jan Wiegerinck appeared in Nieuw Archief voor Wiskunde (5) 17 (2016), nr. 2, pp. 126-127.

About the photo: This was taken by Walter Hoffmann during lunch after a colloquium lecture on 7 February 2007, briefly after Eduard's 80th birthday which he then celebrated at the Korteweg-de Vries Institute.

Education and professional career

Furthermore, Eduard the Jager was Niederländischer Gastprofessor in Nordrhein-Westfalen at the Universität zu Köln from October 1975 to February 1976 and from April 1992 to June 1992.

Apart from that, he was Advisory Professor at the Shanghai University of Technology in the People's Republic of China from March to May 1986.
