I am an associate professor at the University of Amsterdam, working in the field of high energy astrophysics.

My current research focusses on supernova remnants, in particular on their cosmic-ray acceleration capabilities. I am also interested in neutron stars, magnetars, pulsar wind nebulae, clusters of galaxies and AGN.

I am a science member of the following collaborations: H.E.S.S. (chair of PWNe/SNR working group), the future gamma-ray observatory  CTA, the JAXA/NASA X-ray spectroscopy mission XRISM, and the NASA Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer mission IXPE. On behalf of NOVA I am chairing the Minnaert Committee for public outreach.
