This is a guide on how to configure your iPhone/iPod Touch/ iPad to use the University of Amsterdam(UvA) and the eduroam wireless access, email and VPN

This section will help you in setting up the UvA wireless connection.
This requires an iPhone updated to firmware version 2.0 or higher, internet connection (another active wifi, edge or 3G).
Follow these steps and you will have your wireless connection active in a minute!
- Email method for older iOS (<3.0):
- Download this configuration file (use right click -> "save link as") on your computer
- Send the file as attachment to your email
- Open the email on the iPhone email client and tap on the attachment
- Method for newer iOS (>3.0):
- Click here by browsing to this page with your device (eg. iPhone)
- An install profile dialogue will pop up, tap on "Install"
- You will be warned that the profile is not signed. Tap on "Install Now"
- Fill in your UvAnetID (or your student number) followed by "@uva.nl"
- Fill in your password
- Repeat the last two points for all remaining networks
- You are done!
IMAP access to UvA Mail
This section describes how to set up an UvA email account on the iPhone email
- Tap on Settings->Mail, contacts, calendars->add account->other
- Fill in your name, your staff/student main mail address and your password
- On the next screen, select IMAP
- On Incoming Mail Server:
- Host Name: webmail.uva.nl
- User Name: {your UvAnetID without @uva.nl}
- Password: {your password}
- On Outgoing Mail Server:
- Host Name: smtp.uva.nl
- User Name: {your UvAnetID without @uva.nl}
- Password: {your password}
Exchange access to UvA Mail, Calendar, Contacts, etc..
This section describes how to set up an UvA email account using and Exchange server on the iPhone email
- Tap on Settings->Mail, contacts, calendars->add account->exchange
- Fill in your UvAnetID and your password
- Leave "Domain" empty
- Tap on next
- A server field will appear, enter "kwik.ic.uva.nl"
- Tap on next and decide what to sync with the exchange server
UvA VPN
Having a VPN connection to the UvA enables you to remotely access local UvA information and services, like the full digital library access and to use self service tools (zelfbediening)
To set up a VPN connection, follow these steps:
- Tap on the Settings -> Network -> VPN
- Tap on Add VPN Configuration
- Select IPSec
- Description: UvA VPN
- Server: vpn.uva.nl
- Account: {your UvAnetID}@uva.nl
- Password: {your password}
- Use Certificate: Off
- Groupname: ipsec
- Secret: ipsec
