Noncommutative Geometry
Lecture course in the master mathematical physics.
Place and time
Mondays, 09.00-11.00 SP G2.13
No lecture on Feb 15!
Lecture Notes (under construction, updated June 18, corrected typos on page 40 (eq. 28) and page 50 (eq. 38))
Exercise sheet 1
Exercise sheet 2
Some (old) exercises on cyclic homology (beware, the level is not representative -too high- for the exam)
For the exam, the following topics are important:
-
C^{*}-algebras, the Gelfand-Naimark theorem and the continuous functional calculus
-
K-theory for C^{*}-algebras, Bott periodicity (not its proof) and the six-term exact sequence associated to a short exact sequence of C^{*}-algebras
-
some basic skills in homological algebra: chain complexes, homology, chain maps and chain homotopies
-
Hochschild and cyclic homology, their relation through the SBI-sequence, us of alternative projective resolutions. Computation of the Hochschild and cyclic homology of smooth functions on a manifold (not the details of the proof)
-
The Chern character, commutative (Chern-Weil theory), and noncommutative.
